#PrimeDayFail

There’s a few gems at Amazon Prime Day, but there’s quite the backlash occurring in the Twittersphere.

Here’s some of my personal favorite gripes for #PrimeDayFail:

Umm…Amazon Prime Day?!

Why is today the first time I have heard about this?! Amazon Prime Day has officially started TODAY, July 15, 2015.

First and foremost, let’s talk Amazon Prime – is it worth it? $100 a year for the following:

  • FREE two-day shipping for eligible purchases (most things I’ve ever needed)
  • Unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Video
  • Ability to borrow books from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library

If you use Amazon enough (I sure do – anything from wedding and baby registries to dog food to household needs I will purchase via Amazon) – the free shipping enough will pay for itself and more – I can’t back this enough.

Moving on, today I heard, for the first time, about Amazon Prime DAY. UMM WHAT.

Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime day is the site’s way of premiering what they say are ‘more deals than Black Friday’ – exclusively for prime members. NBC News did some digging and highlighted the best savings so far – I certainly urge you to take a look – get ahead on holiday shopping, find convenient discounted birthday gifts, or hey, treat yourself!

Some really solid deals for all types of audiences. To read more, check out the full article here: Amazon Prime Day Highlights

Pro Tip: If you aren’t an Amazon Prime member, you can sign up for a FREE 30 Day Trial – that’d qualify you for the Prime Day eligibility. BUT – do NOT forget to unsubscribe if you aren’t feeling it – after 30 days you’ll get charged for the full year! Tread with caution 🙂

Stay Healthy This Summer!

During my commute this morning – coughs.

Walking into my office this morning? Sneezing and common colds.

Free Sample of Emergen-C!

Who knew how common getting sick during the summertime was? I’ve got way too many upcoming events to deal with that sort of bump in the road for me, my husband, or any of my kids – what a hassle.

Call me crazy, but I’m a firm believer in Emergen-C and boosting vitamin C intake as a means to stay healthy and ward off such inconveniences. When I was browsing around to order a case of the most appealing flavor, I found an awesome deal. Looks like all you need to do is sign up and take a brief consumer survey and they’ll send you at least 1 free sample. Why not, right?

My Starbucks Rewards

My Starbucks Rewards, aka, my lifeblood.

As much as I try to make my own coffee at home, a Starbucks coffee on the go is both unavoidable and unrivaled! All you have to do is register a gift card (who doesn’t have these lying around from holiday stocking stuffers?) and earn a ‘star’ per purchase. You can achieve different levels depending on your frequency of purchase, but every 5 stars = free refills, and after 30 stars, every 12 stars =1 free drink or food item. Not a shabby deal if you are a frequent Starbucks drinker.

My favorite part of the reward program? A free drink of ANY SIZE or a food item during your birthday month! Pretty great, and I’ve used it for two years straight now!

They also send you deals throughout the month – BOGOs, special deals for special times, etc. available only to rewards programs users. VIP Status!

Download the app today – why not?

CVS ExtraCare

One of my absolute favorite things in life is going to CVS, buying my day to day products, and then getting an unreal amount of coupons with my receipt after scanning my ExtraCare card. This may sound crazy, but these are some of the ONLY printed coupons that I save and actually use, as I use CVS as my pharmacy and go fairly often. Not only do you get specific product coupons, but sometimes you get  ExtraBucks® Rewards which legit knocks dollars off of your bill.

This youtube video sums it up:

I’d recommend anyone who visits CVS regularly to get a card – you will, guaranteed, save a ton of money.

Store Brand vs. Brand Name

I never, ever have a problem buying store brand products. Frankly, I don’t think I’d ever notice a difference – but do other people? I did some research this morning to see if my desire for a slightly cheaper product is overriding my taste buds. Here’s what I found!

Thanks to Consumer Reports, I have some answers: Store Brand vs. Name Brand Taste Off

Trading big brands for store brands, you can save an average of 25% off of your groceries. In their study, they tested 19 products. In 10 cases, the product tied, in 8, brand name won, and in 1 case store brand won. I like my odds.

The top contenders for products you should buy store brand?

  • Broth – chicken, vegetable, etc. They vary so minimally from brand to brand that this is always a safe choice to buy whatever is cheapest
  • Bottled water – it’s all the same! As long as it’s filtered, you will be equally hydrated, whatever brand you decide.
  • Roasted Nuts – essentially interchangable – salty flavors you love are so consistent!
  • Cottage Cheese – this is my PERSONAL favorite! I love store brand cottage cheese.

Moral of the story: Try for yourself! See what passes for you and what doesn’t – buy cheaper when you can!

The Honest Company

I was lucky enough to see Jessica Alba speak about her company, The Honest Company, at SXSW in Austin this past March. Knowing very little about The Honest Company going into the panel, Alba blew me away.

The company makes nontoxic, eco-friendly products for children and the household – generating $150 million in sales in 2014. Alba shed a ton of light on the chemicals introduced into our household on a daily basis by buying big name brands – attributing a lot of her own family’s allergies, rashes, etc. to contact with these toxic ingredients.

So much immediately hit home. From the fact that I have to  use clear, unscented detergents in my own home, to an immediate transition to organic upon having children. You want to provide the best products and keep them pure, safe, and happy. The Honest Company embodies this – their ethical products are what I’ve been using for my household needs since.

Alba was so incredibly well spoken and clearly passionate about her cause. I’ve been scouring the internet to find some snippets of her video, and all I could find were articles discussing how she debuted her latest haircut during this panel. ::sigh::

Lucky for all of you – The Honest Company is offering a FREE sample discovery kit of diapers, wipes, essentials and/or health & wellness products so you can check them out for yourself. Order your free trial and enjoy all of the amazing products that they have to offer. They’re so much more than just a famous face to the brand!
